Internet Safety

  1. "Visit only safe websites. Stay away from sites with flashing pictures, bright colors, and messy ads. Does the site make you uncomfortable? If so, leave the site right away. [1]"
  2. "Do you want to meet an online friend in person? Never do this without a parent’s permission. If you do meet someone, take an adult. Meet in a busy place like a library. [1]"
  3. "You can use Incognito Mode in the Chrome browser on your computer, tablet, or phone to browse the web privately. In Incognito Mode, the pages you visit and files you download aren’t recorded in Chrome’s browsing or download history. [2]"
But what you share and who you share it with can end up saying a lot about you.
  4.

"To help create the best version of your story online, it’s good to know our first tip: think before you share. [3]"

  5.

"What’s this mean? That anything you post online, any message, picture, status update or blog post has the potential to be shared. If something you shared privately became public, how would that make you feel? And how might it affect how others think about you if they saw it? So it's always good to think about these things before you share online. [3]"

  6.

"Do not share or post your personal information online. Do not give out your last name, address, or phone number. Ask a parent before posting your photograph or

    school’s name. [2]"

A year ago, I did a blog post on a website called IFTTT! If you want to view that, click here ! But let me quickly explain why this is relevant to phones! Lots of carriers have a way to send text messages through email! This is carrier-specific, so you can't just send it to all phone numbers! For example, Cellcom has yournumber@cellcom.quiktxt.com and U.S Cellular has yournumber@email.uscc.net! (These are carrier emails for TechyTommy Email VIP users.) To use all of these, format your phone number like this: 1234567890! These are called "SMS to email gateways"! But what if your carrier is not listed here? Thankfully, there is a website with 92 carriers in the United States! Just go to email2sms.info  if your carrier isn't in this article! But how does IFTTT work here?
